Internships are paid or unpaid and are done in a field directly related to your area of study. They are a great way to explore your field and clarify your career interests. Internships also foster personal and professional growth, increase your network of contacts, and give you additional experiences that will prove valuable in shaping future decisions and in your growth as a human being.

As a K-State Polytechnic student, you have many options for participating in an internship and for obtaining academic credit for all your hard work. We encourage all students and employers to formalize any internship experience. This means that you, as an intern, will enroll in a special course that will help you develop specific learning objectives for the experience. These objectives allow both the employer and the intern to know exactly what is expected during the internship experience.

Students who are interested in beginning the process to receive academic credit for their internship should follow the steps outlined below.

Steps for pursuing an Internship for credit:

  1. Students should visit with their Academic Advisor before pursuing an internship for credit to determine how the internship will be applied to their degree program.
  2. Students are responsible for locating and securing their internships. For assistance with finding possible employers, contact Julie Rowe, Student Activities Coordinator, jarowe@k-state.edu, College Center 112 and/or a faculty member within your degree program.
  3. Students must complete an Internship Prep Course before enrolling in the actual Internship Course (COT 495) for credit. Contact Julie Rowe, Student Activities Coordinator, jarowe@k-state.edu, College Center 112, for more information about the Prep Course.
  4. Once the Internship Prep Course is completed, the instructor for the Prep Course will notify the Registrar to enroll the student in the Internship Course (COT 495).

Contact Julie Rowe at jarowe@k-state.edu or 785-826-2971 for additional information.
