Thrilling flights. Panoramic views. Adventurous opportunities. The life of a professional pilot is full of exhilarating moments and Kansas State Polytechnic's award-winning professional pilot program is the perfect place to begin your aviation journey. Our flight operations curriculum does more than train pilots – students receive training above and beyond the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) minimum requirements, creating professionals that are confident to fly in all conditions, troubleshoot and solve problems, make ethical decisions and exceed the expectations of the aviation industry. With the degree option's longstanding history at the university, K-State Polytechnic has turned people passionate about aviation into the best pilots in the skies.
Why our program?
Our professional pilot program offers a diverse fleet of more than 25 aircraft, including Beechcraft Barons and new Cessna 172s. We're also one of the few programs in the country that offers students the opportunity to fly a Canadair Regional Jet, or CRJ, 700 simulator. This device is an identical representation of the airplane made by Bombardier and provides pilots hands-on experience associated with an aircraft of this size.
Students also have the opportunity to train on two Redbird flight simulators. The Redbird simulator allows students to accumulate flight time in an economical way. Students can train in any environment and focus their attention on in-flight training, with no pre-flight checks or waiting for other aircraft to taxi. By using the Redbird simulator, students also have the opportunity to train on various types of aircraft. Specifically, K-State Polytechnic trains on the Skyhawk 172, both G1000/glass cockpit and steam gauge; Bonanza G36 and Baron.
When you're a student in the K-State Polytechnic professional pilot program, no commute is necessary from the classroom to the flight line. Our campus is located adjacent to the Salina Regional Airport, providing students direct access to a 12,300-foot runway – one of the longest in the nation – as their training facility. The property is also home to both parallel and crosswind runways.
Watch real-time video of our students and flight instructors as they perform flight operations on the university’s private ramp.
