Succession Planning

Succession planning is the process of identifying and preparing internal employees to fill leadership positions in the organization. A well-developed succession plan is important for an organization’s success to ensure stability of operations, avoid vacancies in key positions, and provide developmental opportunities to existing employees.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Determine the organization’s long-term goals and need for succession planning
  • Identify high-potential employees
  • Create a development plan to ready key employees
  • Communicate the session plan to company stakeholders
  • Understand workforce trends and predictions

Registration is closed for the course.

Date: Wednesday, February 3, 2016

Time: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Location: Welcome Center room 122, K-State Polytechnic campus

Cost: $125

Registration fee includes course instruction and materials, morning refreshments, and parking permit.

Professional Education and Outreach is dedicated to extending Kansas State University's academic offerings beyond the walls of the university through professional development courses. In an effort to provide professional development courses for all professionals a registration free scholarship is available for select professional development offerings. Registration fee scholarships are awarded based on:

  • Career potential and experience of candidate
  • Ability to utilize course teachings in candidate's career field
  • Identifiable limitations on candidate's ability to attend

Applicants must submit a complete application package by Tuesday, January 19, 2016 to be considered for the scholarship. Scholarships will only be awarded if the course meets the minimum registration. Applicants will be notified of the scholarship decision by January 27, 2016.

If you are traveling east or west on I-70, stay on I-70 until the I-70/I135 interchange. Travel south on I-135 to the Magnolia St. exit (No. 90). Go west on Magnolia to Centennial Rd. Turn right and proceed to the K-State Polytechnic campus. 

If you are traveling north or south on I-135, take the Magnolia St. exit (No. 90). Go west on Magnolia to Centennial Rd. Turn right and proceed to the K-State Polytechnic campus.

Substitutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact Professional Education and Outreach to request a substitution.

Cancellations must be received by K-State Polytechnic Professional Education and Outreach by 5:00 pm on January 27, 2016. Refunds will only be honored if the cancellation is received by the registration deadline. Cancellations received after the deadline, are not eligible for a refund. Registrants who do not cancel their registration are responsible for the registration fee even if they do not attend and have not paid the fee.

K-State Polytechnic Professional Education and Outreach may cancel or postpone any course or activity because of insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. If the event is canceled or postponed, the Professional Education and Outreach office will refund registration fees, but cannot be held responsible for costs, charges, or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines, hotels, or travel agencies.


Registration for this event gives consent for photographs, publicity, and inclusion on the participant list unless K-State Polytechnic Professional Education and Outreach is notified in writing at profed@k-state.edu prior to the start date.

Gayle is President of Organizational Performance Solutions LLC, a firm specializing in human resources consulting, competency model development, leadership development, organizational development consulting and curriculum design and delivery. Gayle has 25 years of experience in human resources, organizational development and training. She has helped individuals and organizations improve communication, leadership, and performance. She works with clients in a variety of industries including engineering, healthcare, finance, government, technology, and transportation. Gayle holds a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
