Safety and Self Defense Training
Have you ever felt unsure of how you would protect yourself if faced with an attacker? This training is tailor-made for any helping professional who provides services in a challenging environment or anyone who just wants to learn practical self-defense moves for their own peace of mind. Participants will learn new ways to address and de-escalate both verbal and physical conflicts, in addition to therapy exercises that can be incorporated into any individual or group sessions targeting survivors of trauma. Self-defense moves highlighted in the training were chosen based on their simplicity and effectiveness regardless of the size of the attacker.
Attendees may use this course to meet compliance of 6 safety continuing education credits and to meet KSA 2009 Supp. 65-6313. K-State Polytechnic is a pre-approved continuing education provider approved by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Provider number 15-005.
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Identify ways to defend oneself and de-escalate situations without using force.
- Perform a series of self-defense moves proven effective regardless the size of an attacker.
- Practice trauma-informed self-care exercises with colleagues or clients who are struggling with the aftermath of an attack.
Out of respect for current survivors of trauma, participants will also be given the options to opt out of practicing any self-defense moves or request to only perform the move on the trainer and speak to the trainer one-on-one after the training if needed.
