Nuclear Gauge (NUC)

Certification Methods

The CIT Program provides the following methods for obtaining certification:

1. Register for the Nuclear Gauge Certification Class and pass the written and performance exams.
Prerequisite: Radiation Safety Training Certificate. Certificate should be sent to the CIT Program Office by email to profed@k-state.edu or fax to 785-826-2632, at least 2 weeks prior to the enrolled class date or quiz out date.

2. Register for the Nuclear Gauge Quiz Out Exam and pass the written and performance exams. This allows a person to take the written and performance exams without attending class. If this option is chosen, the individual is expressing their knowledge and ability to perform test procedures without coaching. This test is recommended for individuals who have at least five years experience. The Nuclear Gauge workbook will be mailed to the address listed on the registration.
Prerequisite: Radiation Safety Training Certificate. Certificate should be sent to the CIT Program Office by email to profed@k-state.edu or fax to 785-826-2632, at least 2 weeks prior to the enrolled class date or quiz out date.

3. Register for the Nuclear Gauge Recertification Exam and pass the written exam. This is only available to individuals who are renewing their certification, who have been witnessed in the last 2 years, and who can provide a DTMT295 record from CMS. The Nuclear Gauge workbook will be mailed to the address listed on the registration.
Prerequisite: DTMT295 screen print from CMS. Submit screen print to the CIT Program Office by email to profed@k-state.edu or fax to 785-826-2632, at least 2 weeks prior to the exam date.

Course Description:

The Nuclear Gauge Certification course will provide information on the different KT Methods that require the nuclear gauge. Topics covered include: Test KT-32, 36, 38, 41, 51 and Standard Counts.

Nuclear Gauge Dosimetry Badge, if you have one - for class and quiz out only

Nuclear Gauge Meter and calibration paperwork  - for class and quiz out only (1 for every 2 people from a company needed on last day)

Testing Information:

Exam: The class and quiz out options require a written exam and a performance exam. The recertification option requires a written exam.

Score: A score of 70% or higher is needed on the written exam. Failure of the written exam requires a full retest.  If three or less performance sub tests are failed, only the sub test failed must be retaken. If four or more sub tests are failed, all performance sub tests must be retaken.
