Social Work Ethics Under the 2017 NASW Code


This course will review the changes in the Social Work Code of Ethics implemented in 2017 and review the implications of those changes. A structure for making ethical decisions will be reviewed. Examples will be used in small group practical exercises. Registration includes a copy of the 2017 NASW Code of Ethics.

Attendees may use this course to meet compliance of 3 ethics continuing education credits. K-State Polytechnic is a pre-approved continuing education provider approved by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Provider number 15-005.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Be familiar with 2017 changes to the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Have an understanding of the implications of the changes
  • Be able to use a standardized structure for ethical decision making
  • Be able to use the structure to solve ethical dilemmas in the future

Cost: $50

Continuing education credits: 3 ethics hours

Registration fee includes course instruction, 2017 NASW Code of Ethics, and materials. Meals are not included in the registration fee and are the attendee's responsibility.

A discounted registration rate is offered to current graduate and post doctoral students. If you are traveling east or west on I-70, stay on I-70 until the I-70/I135 interchange. Travel south on I-135 to the Magnolia St. exit (No. 90). Go west on Magnolia to Centennial Rd. Turn right and proceed to the K-State Polytechnic campus. 

If you are traveling north or south on I-135, take the Magnolia St. exit (No. 90). Go west on Magnolia to Centennial Rd. Turn right and proceed to the K-State Polytechnic campus.

About the Instructor

Margaret A. Presley

Margaret A. Presley spent 29 years working in the Kansas area.  She was on the ground floor of developing curriculum and training others across the state on child abuse.  In 1989, Presley began teaching Social Work at Bethany College, later moving to Kansas State University Salina. She retired in June 2014 from Kansas State University Salina. She has taught and trained in the area of ethics for much of her career.
