Anxiety Disorders: Recognition and Response
Anxiety disorders are some of the most widely diagnosed disorders in many treatment settings. The use of CBT and E/RP as the seminal treatment choice for many anxiety based disorders is well documented. However, the ability to obtain the most appropriate evidence based treatment can be very difficult for some vulnerable or underserved populations. Those in our more rural communities, those with economic hardship and those who just don’t have access to clinical staff trained in evidence based models are most at risk. Today’s session will focus on the dissemination of very clear evidence based treatments which can be implemented immediately with clients whom experience anxiety. Adjunct treatments and innovative treatments when resources are scarce will also be discussed. Evidence supporting evidence based models, including the significant impact they can have on client outcomes, will also be addressed.
K-State Polytechnic is a pre-approved continuing education provider approved by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Provider number 15-005.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Participants will gain a good understanding of available diagnostic categories related to anxiety as well as the evidence based treatment model associated with the treatment of anxiety disorders.
- Participants will obtain an understanding related to the use of adjunct treatment measures with an evidence based practice for the treatment of anxiety and how these improve outcomes for their clients.
- Participants will be aware of the difficulties associated with implementing evidence based practices for anxiety treatment in a variety of non-specialized settings, particularly in those that serve underserved populations. However, participants will be equipped to provide historically difficult to implement, evidence based practices, with few resources or in settings not traditionally well suited to evidence based practices.
- Participants will gain a beginning understanding of how to implement evidence based protocols with their own client base. This will include innovative means of implementation.
