Student Development, Support and Success
K-State Polytechnic has student service offices and experiences committed to promoting educational achievements by enhancing the opportunities, learning, safety, and growth of the campus community. These offices encompass Student Life, Student Support Services, and various Learning Resources to support student success. K-State Polytechnic also established the comprehensive experience program as a multi-year program to support undergraduate student learning outcomes, introduce undergraduate research expectations, and foster graduates that embody our campus mission principles of social awareness and ethical decision making. These campus services, programs, and activities strive to provide support, foster inclusivity, and contribute to the personal and professional growth and development of students in an effort to strengthen the quality of life, foster student learning and leadership, and provide a positive student experience within a safe and supportive environment.
A variety of learning resources are available to provide academic support for students throughout their field of study. Those services include peer tutoring, writing center, disability support services, quiet study spaces, testing center support, and a welcoming library where students gather for individual and community learning.
Peer tutoring provides assistance to students outside the classroom for courses where students typically experience difficulty. Our peer tutors have successfully mastered the course material and come highly recommended by faculty. Peer tutoring is free to all currently enrolled K-State students and is available for several undergraduate courses.
The K-State Polytechnic Writing Center provides one-on-one tutoring services for students across disciplines, free of charge. Trained peer tutors are available to consult over writing assignments, proposals, and professional resumes. Tutors can discuss all stages of the writing process from topic development to final editing. The Writing Center’s primary objective is to help students develop their college-level writing abilities. Students are encouraged to sign up for appointments in advance to guarantee that a tutor will be available at their convenience. Disability Support Service
K-State Polytechnic is committed to providing equal opportunity and access for students by working closely and collaboratively with students and faculty. A wide range of accommodations and services are provided to students with documented disabilities. Disability Support Services will help review and discuss academic accommodations a student may need and be eligible for. Letters of accommodations will be provided to the student to help facilitate communication with faculty.
K-State Polytechnic Library
The library, located in the Technology Center, meets standards set for the college libraries by the American Library Association and Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. The library contains more than 20,000 volumes and provides access to nearly 90 online databases, as well as a collection of up-to-date technical information and reference materials (paper and electronic) covering technological subjects. The library also has computer workstations containing all software found in the college’s computer labs.
A multi-year co-curricular program consisting of four components that prepare students to meet undergraduate student learning outcomes, introduces undergraduate research expectations, and fosters leadership and job readiness skills. This provides a tiered approach to provide assistance that students need to start college and be successful and builds on those skills with research and career readiness experience. http://polytechnic.k-state.edu/ce/
The four components consists of:
- UBelong which is New Student Orientation
- UExperience which is a First Year, New Student Success Course
- UInnovate which is a project-management, collaborative skills building event
- UEngage which encourages students to participate in job readiness activities such as networking fair, interview workshops, internships, etc.
Professional Education and Outreach
The Professional Education and Outreach department provides student services to support online and distance students in reaching academic success at K-State Polytechnic. The department utilizes online and distance learning technology to deliver affordable and accessible educational options to meet student needs. The department’s faculty services assist instructors who develop and teach online and distance courses.
